Snap Inc, the parent company of Snapchat, has announced the release of its AI-powered chatbot, leveraging OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology. With this move, Snapchat aims to tap into the world of generative AI, as it offers its users a more personalized and interactive messaging experience.

The latest chatbot, My AI, will only be accessible to users who subscribe to the premium version of Snapchat, called Snapchat+. The company made this announcement in a recent blog post, highlighting its commitment to enhancing the overall user experience through innovative technology.

The tech world buzzing over ChatGPT, an AI technology that generates text-based responses to prompts. Its popularity has prompted leading tech giants like Microsoft and Google’s Alphabet to announce their own AI chatbots earlier this February, further fueling the trend.

Snap has announced that My AI, has been trained to have a playful and light-hearted tone, enabling it to provide imaginative suggestions such as gift ideas for a friend’s birthday or even craft a poem on a particular subject. With such innovative features, Snap is aiming to boost user engagement and provide a more personalized messaging experience.

In a recent blog post, Snap cautioned users that its chatbot may sometimes generate responses that are not entirely accurate or relevant, as it is “prone to hallucination.” The company added that users should not rely on the bot for advice or important information, as it may be tricked into saying anything.

Alphabet suffered a significant loss of market value, amounting to $100 billion, due to an incident in which its new chatbot shared inaccurate information in a promotional video.
