{"id":1076,"date":"2023-01-01T03:40:37","date_gmt":"2023-01-01T03:40:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yareport.com\/?p=1076"},"modified":"2023-01-01T03:42:01","modified_gmt":"2023-01-01T03:42:01","slug":"mastodon-founder-says-investors-lining-up-since-musks-twitter-takeover","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yareport.com\/index.php\/2023\/01\/01\/mastodon-founder-says-investors-lining-up-since-musks-twitter-takeover\/","title":{"rendered":"Mastodon founder says investors lining up since Musk\u2019s Twitter takeover\ufffc"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The founder of Mastodon has said he has rejected approaches from more than five US based investors, as the Twitter rival grows in popularity after Musk\u2019s chaotic debut as a social media owner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eugen Rochko, who launched the open source social network in 2016, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/de808736-2e05-4c3b-a53c-55b170ae9efd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"told the Financial Times\">told the Financial Times<\/a> he had received the offers from Silicon Valley firms to put \u201chundreds of thousands of dollars\u201d into the product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The popularity of Mastodon has surged since the $44bn acquisition of Twitter by Musk in October. Rochko said last week that Mastodon had jumped from 300,000 monthly active users to 2.5 million after the Twitter deal, which has seen Musk reinstate banned accounts such as Trump\u2019s and temporarily suspend journalists at publications including the New York Times and Washington Post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His platform\u2019s status as a non-profit organisation was untouchable and its independence was part of its appeal to users. Mastodon has more than 9,200 patrons on Patreon, the online membership service, who are contributing more than \u00a328,000 a month to the platform between them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cMastodon will not turn into everything you hate about Twitter,\u201d<\/p><p>\u201cThis is a stark reminder that centralised platforms can impose arbitrary and unfair limits on what you can and can\u2019t say \u2026 At Mastodon, we believe that there doesn\u2019t have to be a middleman between you and your audience and that journalists and government institutions especially should not have to rely on a private platform to reach the public.\u201d<\/p><cite><em>In a blog post, Rochko wrote.<\/em><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><div tabindex=\"0\">Mastodon is made up of decentralised servers. Two of the most popular instances are run by Rochko, with many smaller ones operated by hobbyists.
