{"id":832,"date":"2022-09-13T01:42:31","date_gmt":"2022-09-13T01:42:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yareport.com\/?p=832"},"modified":"2022-09-13T01:45:09","modified_gmt":"2022-09-13T01:45:09","slug":"the-latest-blue-origin-launch-fails","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yareport.com\/index.php\/2022\/09\/13\/the-latest-blue-origin-launch-fails\/","title":{"rendered":"The latest Blue Origin launch fail"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>An uncrewed rocket belonging to Blue Origin, failed shortly after launch in Texas on Monday morning, a potential setback for the Amazon founder\u2019s wider ambitions of sending humans into orbit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The malfunction of the New Shepard booster, a type of rocket that is similar to the one Blue Origin has used this year to send three crews of up to six people on suborbital flights, came 1min 4sec after launch and just as the vehicle was reaching its maximum dynamic pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A built-in abort system jettisoned the crew capsule away from the booster at about 8.8km altitude and deployed parachutes that dropped it back to earth. The booster is presumed to have been destroyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cIt appears we\u2019ve experienced an anomaly with today\u2019s flight \u2013 this was unplanned and we do not have any details yet, but our crew capsule was able to escape successfully\u201d<\/p><p>\u201cYou can see how our backup safety systems kicked in today to keep our payload safe during an off-nominal situation. Safety is our highest value at Blue Origin. It\u2019s why we built so much redundancy into the system.\u201d<\/p><cite>Erika Wagner senior director at Blue Origin, said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=SqAVWvOT-1c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"during the livestream\">during the livestream<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A subsequent tweet from the company said: \u201cThis was a payload mission with no astronauts on board. The capsule escape system functioned as designed.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The mission, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueorigin.com\/news\/new-shepard-ns-23-mission-announcement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"called NS-23\">called NS-23<\/a>, was carrying \u201c36 payloads from academia, research institutions and students across the globe\u201d on this particular vehicle\u2019s ninth overall flight, Blue Origin said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company believes two additional experiments attached to the exterior of the booster to analyze the effects of ambient exposure to the space environment were destroyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In six crewed \u201ctourist\u201d flights lasting between 10 and 15 minutes each, Blue Origin has taken 31 humans to space on New Shepard launches, most recently last month.
